A group of Kenyan citizens has petitioned the National Assembly to erect a national statue honouring former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga within the precincts of Parliament. This petition recognizes his significant contributions to Kenya’s democracy, governance, and social reform, aiming to immortalize his legacy.

• The petition was filed pursuant to Article 119 of the Constitution and other acts to commemorate Raila Odinga as a Father of Democracy and Human Rights Defender.
• The proposed monument would serve as a symbol of democratic struggle, inspiring future generations and reminding legislators of the values underpinning the 2010 Constitution.
• Odinga served as Member of Parliament for Lang’ata from 1992 to 2013 and as Kenya’s first Prime Minister under the Grand Coalition Government from 2008 to 2013.
