US President Donald Trump will meet with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in South Korea on October 30, the White House confirmed, amidst rising tensions over trade and rare earth exports.

• The meeting will be the first face-to-face encounter for both leaders since Trump’s return to office.
• Trump has threatened a 100% tariff on Chinese goods from November if China does not ease restrictions on rare earth exports.
• The bilateral discussion will occur on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit (Apec) in Gyeongju.
