Tropical Storm Melissa in the Caribbean is projected to become a hurricane on Saturday, according to the US National Hurricane Centre, following heavy rainfall and a landslide that claimed three lives in Haiti.

• The storm, currently with maximum sustained winds of nearly 110 kilometers per hour (70 miles per hour), is expected to intensify into a major hurricane by Sunday.
• The US National Hurricane Centre warned of "life-threatening and catastrophic flash flooding and landslides" across parts of Jamaica and the southern parts of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
• In Haiti, two people died in a landslide triggered by the storm, and an elderly person was killed by a falling tree, as reported by the Civil Protection Agency.
