Kenyan middle-distance runner Esther Gitahi has received a four-year ban from athletics due to a doping violation, following a positive test for Erythropoietin (EPO). This ban was confirmed by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) and became effective on August 6, 2024.

• The ban was imposed after Gitahi's urine sample, collected on April 13, 2024, during the B.A.A. 5K in Boston, USA, tested positive for EPO.
• The Disciplinary and Appeals Tribunal found her explanation for using the substance, claiming treatment for thalassemia, to be "somewhat bizarre" and "not credible," concluding the use was intentional.
• The standard sanction of a four-year ineligibility was applied, consistent with intentional use of a non-specified prohibited substance under AIU rules.
