A petition has been filed at the High Court seeking the removal of Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga from office after a video surfaced showing him celebrating the hypothetical death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

• The petition was filed by Bunge la Mwananchi alongside Lawrence Oyugi, Komeade Bush, and Nicholas Kimanzi, alleging ethnic and inflammatory remarks that undermine national unity.
• The petitioners argue Kahiga’s statements amount to hate speech and gross misconduct under the Constitution, the Leadership and Integrity Act, and the National Cohesion and Integration Act.
• They are seeking to bar Kahiga from making further inflammatory statements and compel the Ethics and Anti-Graft Commission (EACC) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to investigate him.
• Governor Kahiga apologized on October 18 for his remarks made on October 17, stepping down as Vice Chairperson of the Council of Governors (COG).
