The African Union and China are deepening their cooperation in agriculture, science, and technology to boost food security and accelerate growth across Africa. This commitment was reaffirmed at the 2025 General Assembly of the China-Africa Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance in Addis Ababa.

• Gaspard Banyankimbona, AU commissioner for education, science, technology and innovation, emphasized leveraging China’s experience in modern farming, digital technologies, and water management.
• The assembly, themed "Cooperation for Africa’s Food Security and Agricultural Modernization," drew over 200 scientists, policymakers, and representatives.
• Lise Korsten, president of the African Academy of Sciences, highlighted that China feeds nearly 20 percent of the world’s population with less than 9 percent of arable land, offering valuable lessons for Africa, which holds 60 percent of the world's uncultivated arable land yet faces food insecurity.
