The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has seized illicit goods valued at Ksh3.9 million during recent operations on Lake Victoria, recovering Ksh1.6 million in revenue from small-scale smuggling. These efforts are part of intensified border security measures aimed at boosting revenue collection and curbing illegal trade.

• The KRA marine officers intercepted goods while combating smuggling of items like illicit liquor, timber, livestock, and sugar.
• KRA Customs Chief Manager Dominic Kengara highlighted that the reopened and expanded Kisumu Port significantly boosted revenue, collecting Ksh107 million in the 2024/2025 financial year, up from Ksh30 million previously.
• Between May and August 2025, sugar imports through Kisumu Port generated over Ksh170 million in duties and taxes.
