The Music Copyright Tribunal has delivered a significant win to the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) by lifting interim orders that allowed the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) to collect and distribute royalties, effectively barring their operations. This decision follows High Court rulings questioning legal compliance and public participation in tariff setting.

• KECOBO successfully argued that MCSK lacks a valid license, having been denied renewal for the 2025–2026 period.
• The Tribunal referred to Section 46A of the Copyright Act and recent rulings by Justices Chacha Mwita and John Chigiti.
• Only PAVRISK and KAMP Copyright and Related Rights are licensed to manage royalties for a one-year period effective November 5, 2025.
