The Kenyan government has allocated Sh1 billion to finalize the construction of the Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital, which President William Ruto announced will be upgraded to a national referral facility. The hospital is expected to be completed within 10 months and will serve the Western region.

President William Ruto directed that over 1,000 youth be hired to speed up the construction of the facility.
The hospital will be a Level Six hospital, complementing other national referral hospitals and advancing Kenya’s universal healthcare goals.
Ruto commended both former governor Wycliffe Oparanya for initiating the project in 2016 and Governor Fernandes Barasa for continuing its implementation.
