Kenyan manufacturers are raising alarms that the ongoing political instability and internet blackouts in Tanzania, particularly during recent elections, could lead to widespread job losses in Kenya and undermine regional economic integration. The disruptions are severely impacting trade routes, supply chains, and investor confidence across East Africa.

• Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) CEO Tobias Alando warned that the internet shutdown in Tanzania negatively affected the telecom sector, logistics, and vital services.
• Kenyan exports to Tanzania in 2024 were valued at Ksh67.20 billion, with imports at Ksh58.72 billion.
• The East African Community (EAC) and African Union leaders are being urged to intervene to restore peace and address grievances in Tanzania, where the incumbent, Samia Suluhu, reportedly won the recent election with 98 per cent of the vote amid contested results.
