The Kirinyaga County government has successfully reclaimed 800 acres of public land, valued at over Ksh1 billion, which had been illegally acquired by private individuals. This recovery process, spanning two years, aims to address the county's shortage of public land.

• The reclaimed parcels, scattered across major towns, were allegedly taken over by influential individuals during the era of defunct local authorities, with one significant recovery in Kabare.
• Kirinyaga County Lands CEC Samuel Kanjombe confirmed the recovery, noting the county's collaboration with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to pursue legal action.
• The recovered land will be used to alleviate urban challenges, particularly congestion in Kutus town, and will facilitate the construction of a new market to support local traders.
