Negotiations between the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Treasury, the National Assembly, and the Universities and Academic Staff Union (UASU) have led to a significant breakthrough regarding the ongoing lecturers' strike in Kenya. UASU Secretary General Constantine Wesonga has indicated that he will convene a meeting with union members to discuss potentially ending the 48-day strike.

UASU demands an 80-20 phased payment plan for the outstanding Ksh7.9 billion in arrears, a modification from the Ministry's proposed 50-50 approach.
Constantine Wesonga also requested an apology from the Education Ministry for alleged threats and intimidation towards striking staff, and a review of handling by the Interpublic Universities Council Consultative Forum (IPUCCF).
The strike originated from the government's failure to fully implement the 2017-2021, 2021-2025, and 2025-2029 Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
