Egerton University has suspended all teaching and learning activities, ordering students to vacate the campus by November 5, 2025, at 2 p.m., due to an ongoing nationwide strike by lecturers and university staff.

• The strike, led by the Universities’ Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU), stems from a dispute over the payment of Ksh. 7.9 billion in arrears.
• The directive affects all students except those in Medical and Law fields, international students, and postgraduate students.
• CS Mbadi proposed paying the arrears in two installments across the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 financial years, but unions rejected the offer, demanding full payment and implementation of the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
