Due to severe drought, Iraq has significantly limited its agricultural winter plan, impacting cultivation reliant on both surface and groundwater. This comes amidst historically low water storage levels and a recently signed water cooperation agreement with Türkiye.

• The agricultural winter plan is limited to 1 million Iraqi dunams (2,500 square km) for surface water and 3.5 million Iraqi dunams (8,750 square km) for groundwater.
• Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani's office announced strict water management measures, including mandatory use of modern irrigation systems.
• Water storage levels in major dams are at their lowest in over a decade, attributed to reduced rainfall and dams in upstream countries affecting the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
