Starting January 1, 2026, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) will mandate sexual harassment awareness training for all seafarers globally, a significant amendment to the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW).

• This new requirement will be integrated into the Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR) module of Basic Safety Training.
• The amendment aims to address sexual harassment in the maritime industry worldwide.
• The training will become compulsory for seafarers under the updated STCW convention.
