Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has refuted claims that over 100 new mothers were detained at Mama Lucy Hospital for unpaid maternity fees, following reports that former Governor Mike Sonko settled their bills.

• Sakaja stated before the Senate Health Committee on Thursday, November 6, that delays in discharge were due to the county's waiver committee reviewing bills for potential waivers, not detention.
• The Governor clarified that Mama Lucy Hospital has initiatives to support needy patients through well-wishers and the Social Health Authority (SHA) programme, with a special committee managing the waiver system weekly.
• Sakaja also highlighted an increase in intensive care unit (ICU) beds across Nairobi's public hospitals, now totaling 46, including 18 at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, 10 at Mama Margaret Uhuru Hospital, and 8 at Mbagathi Hospital.
