The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has filed a lawsuit to reclaim nine acres of public land in Ruiru, Kiambu County, valued at Ksh.250 million in 2019, which was originally designated for a public secondary school but illegally converted to private residential use.

• The land was part of a parcel surrendered by Kahawa Sukari Limited to the government for educational purposes, but was sold to James Mwangi Wagura and Lucy Waruguru Wagura in 2005 before the school was developed.
• The EACC argues that the subsequent change of user from educational to residential, and the subdivision of the land into 37 residential plots with lease certificates for the couple, was irregular and unlawful, citing fraud and illegality.
• The court issued temporary injunctions on October 29, 2025, restraining Kahawa Sukari Ltd, James Mwangi Wagura, and Lucy Waruguru Wagura from dealing with the land until an inter partes hearing scheduled for November 20, 2025.
