Defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and league finalists Zetech University Sparks (Kenya) are set to compete in the 2025 Women Basketball League Africa (WBLA) Zone Five qualifiers, which began today at Nyayo Gymnasium. Only the finalists will secure a spot in the main WBLA tournament in Cairo, Egypt, later this year, aiming to avoid a repeat of last year where no Kenyan teams qualified.
- KPA, the 2023 African silver medallists, strengthened their squad by signing Nigerian Afrobasket winner Ifunanya Okoro, Aminata Ly from Senegal, and Kenyans Mercy Wanyama and Betty Kananu.
- Rookies Zetech Sparks, making their debut, will feature their regular student-players, with coach Maurice Obilo emphasizing providing an opportunity for their students.
- The Kenyan teams will face six other contenders, including strong threats from Rwandan sides REG and APR, as well as teams from Burundi, Tanzania, and Uganda.
