Parents in Kenya are being urged to be extra vigilant over their teenagers during the upcoming long holiday period due to increased vulnerability to risky behavior and social vices.

• Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni highlighted data showing children are more susceptible to peer pressure during extended school breaks.
• Muthoni appealed to church and community leaders to organize constructive activities for young people to counter idleness and reduce the risk of activities like teenage pregnancies.
• The PS also raised concerns about drug and substance abuse, accusing some manufacturers of targeting young consumers, and stressed the importance of public health and hygiene, including proper inspection of meat during the festive season.
