A new report by Ipsos reveals that 94 per cent of ride-hailing users in Kenya consider these services safer than other transport options like matatus. This perception is largely driven by safety features integrated into the apps, which 97 per cent of customers find reassuring.

• The study, commissioned by Bolt, surveyed 250 active ride-hailing users across Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru.
• Driver verification (79 per cent) and the SOS button (78 per cent) were identified as the most valued safety tools.
• Women constitute 70 per cent of ride-hailing users in Kenya, with convenience (70 per cent) and safety (57 per cent) being primary motivators for their usage.
• Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager at Bolt, emphasized their investment in systems for rider control, such as GPS tracking and emergency response tools.
