A Vihiga cleric, Bishop John Mweresi, head of the African Israel Nineveh Church, has been sentenced to nine months in prison for land fraud after a seven-year court case, found guilty on four counts including forging documents.

• Mweresi faces nine months imprisonment or a Ksh. 280,000 fine (Ksh. 70,000 per count), with sentences running concurrently.
• The cleric was found guilty of forging documents and falsely acquiring land in Vihiga County.
• He spent three weeks in remand after his bail was cancelled due to flight risk, and has 14 days to appeal the verdict.
