The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has announced a nationwide suspension of macadamia harvesting and trade in Kenya from December 1, 2025, to February 15, 2026. This decision aims to ensure the crop attains full maturity and meets quality standards for export.

• The ban was enacted after a survey by AFA found macadamia crops were still undergoing physiological development.
• Director General Bruno Linyiru stated the seasonal closure will allow the crop to reach full maturity, enhancing quality for exports.
• Kenya earned Ksh8.7 billion from exporting 10,670 tons of processed macadamia and Ksh2.3 billion from 14,384.6 tons of raw macadamia between July 2023 and February 2025.
• The existing ban on exporting raw, in-shell macadamia nuts remains in force.
