Airtel Africa Telesonic has partnered with Nokia to build a high-capacity terrestrial fiber network across East and Central Africa, connecting the 2Africa subsea cable to terrestrial networks for faster and more reliable digital connectivity.
- The network will utilize Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform, achieving data transmission speeds of up to 38 Terabits per second (Tbps).
- The project spans 139 Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) nodes and is C+L Band Ready for future capacity expansion.
- Chief Technology Officer Razvan Ungureanu stated this upgrade will provide greater capacity for efficient handling of webscale traffic, while CEO of Airtel Africa Telesonic PD Sarma highlighted the aim to meet Africa's escalating data demands.
