The Global Alliance for Livestock Veterinary Medicines (GALVmed) has partnered with the Kenya Veterinary Association (KVA) and the Ministry of Agriculture for a nationwide ruminant vaccination rollout in Kenya, aiming to boost livestock productivity and expand market access.

• The initiative complements the government's mass vaccination campaign against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR).
• GALVmed's five-year VITAL 2 programme covers Kenya and two other African countries.
• The government aims to vaccinate 22 million cattle and 50 million sheep and goats, targeting nearly 90 percent ruminant vaccination coverage.
• The vaccination exercise now integrates accurate disease reporting, traceability, and animal identification to meet global market requirements.
• This move is projected to open new export corridors in the Middle East, South America, West Africa, and the Indian Ocean region.
