The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is implementing immediate re-tests for thousands of drivers ahead of the December Christmas festive season in Kenya to curb road accidents. This move comes after a reported 2.6 per cent increase in road crash victims in 2025 compared to the previous year.
- Drivers flagged by enforcement initiatives and the NTSA Intelligent Road Safety Management System (IRSMS) will undergo mandatory re-testing to confirm their competency.
- Angela Wanjira, NTSA Director General, announced these measures, including real-time IRSMS transmission for PSVs and commercial fleets, and expanding the Usalama Barabarani program.
- The IRSMS, launched in 2023, monitors vehicles for speed, driver behavior, and violations like reckless overtaking, sending alerts for breaches of safety standards.
