A major transport strike is threatening Nairobi this week as 13 matatu companies plan to cease operations due to alleged harassment by the Nairobi County government and the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

• The matatu SACCOs filed a lawsuit on Monday, November 17, seeking to block EPRA's ban on picking up/dropping off passengers at petrol stations within the Nairobi CBD.
• Lawyers Danstan Omari and Stanley Kinyanjui represent the SACCOs, arguing the directive is punitive and questions why matatus are being singled out when the practice is widespread.
• The Nairobi County government is pushing to relocate matatus to the new Greenpark Terminus, which matatu owners deem impractical due to its distance from the city center.
