MP Roza Buyu has condemned violence against women following the arrest of Matengo, a market chairlady, who allegedly beat two women with a wooden rod at Kibuye Market. Matengo and her co-accused, Marion Akinyi, have pleaded not guilty to assault charges and were remanded at Kodiaga GK Women’s Prison.

• Matengo and Akinyi were arraigned on Monday morning at Winam Law Courts.
• Their bond application will be heard on Monday, the 24th.
• The State prosecutor, supported by officials from FIDA, opposed their release on bond.
• The incident follows a viral video allegedly showing Matengo beating two women.
• Dozens of traders showed solidarity with Matengo at the court.
