The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has fined Kasipul parliamentary by-election candidates Boyd Were and Philip Aroko Sh1 million each. This penalty follows their involvement in campaign violence on November 7 that resulted in two deaths and numerous injuries.

• Both candidates violated a harmonized campaign schedule by holding unscheduled rallies in the Opondo area, leading to clashes.
• The IEBC committee, chaired by commissioner Alutalala Mukhwana, found Were and Aroko responsible for the violence.
• The IEBC also warned the Homabay county government against using public resources in campaigns, citing violations of the Election Offences Act.
