The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is under scrutiny following allegations of officials collaborating with driving schools to irregularly issue driving licenses, compromising road safety in Kenya.

• Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah raised the alarm, urging the Senate Standing Committee on Roads and Transportation to address the malpractice and its contribution to the alarming state of road safety.
• An exposé by the BBC revealed undercover journalists, who had never driven, obtained licenses through bribery, paying Ksh14,000 to a driving school and an additional Ksh8,000 to an NTSA contact for a smart license.
• The Road Safety Association of Kenya called for the revocation of all driving licenses issued by NTSA in the past six years, claiming that 80 percent were issued to individuals who did not undergo proper training.
• Senator Omtatah also highlighted poor road infrastructure on major highways like Nairobi-Mombasa, citing inadequate lighting, signage, and hazardous bumps as contributing factors to accidents.
