Kenya Airways (KQ) and Blueberry Travel have partnered to plant 308 trees at the Kenya Scouts Association grounds in Ngong, marking an initiative to offset carbon emissions and contribute to environmental sustainability on World Tree Day, November 21.
- The drive is part of broader efforts by the aviation industry to invest in carbon-offset programmes as pressure mounts to cut emissions, with global aviation contributing about 2–3 per cent of global carbon emissions.
- Patrick Tanui, key account manager at Kenya Airways, highlighted KQ's commitment to decarbonisation, including reforestation and the gradual adoption of cleaner fuel alternatives, such as their first inter-African flight using sustainable aviation fuel on the Nairobi–Johannesburg route this year.
- Ravi Manghnani, managing director of Blueberry Travel, stated this is their third year running a tree-planting programme, previously planting in Karura Forest and now expanding beyond Nairobi, with a goal to care for a dedicated section of forest.
