Kenya and Uganda have pledged enhanced cross-border cooperation in sectors like steel manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure to boost regional self-sufficiency and intra-African trade. This commitment was highlighted during the groundbreaking of the Devki Mega Steel Project in Tororo District, Uganda.

• The Tororo facility is expected to employ more than 400 workers initially, with plans to reach 20,000 across East African operations by 2027.
• President William Ruto of Kenya and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda emphasized that these projects aim to build value chains and expand regional manufacturing capacity.
• The African steel market is projected to reach 52 million tonnes by 2034, up from 39.5 million tonnes in 2024.
