A UK court has denied bail to former British soldier Robert James Purkiss, accused of the murder of Agnes Wanjiru, found dead in Nanyuki 13 years ago. Despite an offer of £15,000 (Ksh2,552,397) security, the judge cited a significant risk of him harming others.

• He is accused of killing Wanjiru, who was 21 years old, after she was last seen with British soldiers in March 2012.
• Prosecutors claim Purkiss confessed to fellow soldiers, stating, "I have killed her," and later described it as "sex that went wrong", leading a colleague to where the body was hidden in a septic tank.
• Purkiss "vehemently denies" the murder charges and will contest his extradition to Kenya, maintaining his innocence and claiming he never met Wanjiru.
• A post-mortem report indicated Wanjiru was beaten, stabbed, and may have been alive when dumped in the tank.
