Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has ordered a nationwide crackdown on businesses supplying substandard medical products. The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) is directed to remove all "substandard, falsified, poor-quality, counterfeit, and unregistered medicines" from the Kenyan Market immediately.

• All individuals involved in supplying illegal medical products will be apprehended and prosecuted; action includes those in charge of premises and their directors.
• The PPB is mandated to seize and destroy these products and close the distribution premises.
• Duale has ordered the reassessment of all medical products in the market and will hire 45 more officers for the board through a World Bank project to address understaffing.
• The CS also directed the PPB to end the "unlawful leasing of licences" in the pharmaceutical industry.
