Japanese beer giant Asahi has revealed that a massive cyber-attack in September potentially leaked the personal information of over 1.5 million customers. The attack crippled operations across its Japanese factories and forced a delay in its full-year financial results.
- 1.52 million customers' names, gender, addresses, and contact information were potentially exposed.
- The attack also affected data belonging to approximately 107,000 current and former employees, 168,000 family members of staff, and 114,000 external contacts.
- The ransomware group Qilin has claimed responsibility for the attack, which caused severe drink shortages in Japan, where Asahi accounts for around 40% of the beer market.
