Electric mobility company Roam has launched Kenya’s first universal fast-charging station for light electric vehicles (LEVs), including Tuktuks and motorbikes. This self-service station aims to address long wait times and compatibility issues, signaling a nationwide rollout of high-speed charging infrastructure.

• The Roam Point introduces a charging system offering a range of 10 to 20 kilometers in under five minutes.
• Users can pay via SMS, Mpesa (USSD), or the Roam App, with service accessible 24 hours a day.
• The station uses Type 6 connectors and open-charge standards, making it compatible with all LEVs built to similar specifications.
• Charging costs Sh25 per kWh at night and Sh40 per kWh during the day, reflecting Kenya Power’s Time of Use (ToU) tariff.
• According to Country Manager Habib Lukaya, charging at Roam Points is cheaper and faster than home charging.
