On Sunday, November 30, 2025, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested three suspects in Diani, recovering Ksh 1.7 million in high-quality counterfeit currency.

• The fake money, consisting of Sh1,000 notes, was found in a laptop bag marked to resemble an official Central Bank of Kenya parcel.
• The arrest followed weeks of surveillance by the DCI’s anti-counterfeit unit, with the notes circulating in local businesses and tourist spots.
• The suspects are believed to be part of a larger network distributing counterfeit money along the Kenyan coast and are held at Diani Police Station.
