Seven Daystar University students, previously linked to the death of their colleague Lorna Kathambi Karani, have been freed after CCTV footage confirmed she died after falling while attempting to jump between balconies. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has now directed a public inquest, where the students will appear as state witnesses.

• The CCTV footage showed Lorna Kathambi Karani, 23, attempting to leap from one building wing to another at Harmony Plaza Apartments on November 23, 2023, before slipping from the 11th floor.
• A toxicology report indicated Karani was highly intoxicated, having been partying with the seven students before the tragedy.
• The freed students are Dennis Kariuki Gitonga, Louis Osiro, Lucy Moraa, Ali Kibwana Kamaku, Precious Kendi Mutembei, Austin Ochieng, and Wendi Kerubo.
