Kenya Railways has announced the addition of an extra Madaraka Express Passenger train to manage the anticipated increase in holiday travel between Nairobi and Mombasa. This new daily service will operate from December 8, 2025, to January 5, 2026, aiming to alleviate pressure on existing services during the festive season.

• The extra train will depart Nairobi at 9:40 am and arrive in Mombasa at 3:55 pm, with the return leg leaving Mombasa at 4:30 pm and reaching Nairobi at 10:55 pm.
• The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) management previously stated that all premium class passenger trains are fully booked until February 2026.
• Managing Director Philip Mainga indicated plans to order additional coaches and consider introducing special trains, similar to last year's initiative, to meet the high demand.
