Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo survived a third impeachment attempt after the Senate ruled that the Nyamira County Assembly failed to achieve the constitutionally required two-thirds majority to remove him from office. The decision by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi invalidated the impeachment motion due to a failure to meet the mandatory threshold.

• 35 senators supported the preliminary objection, with only four opposing it, ending the proceedings abruptly.
• Governor Nyaribo’s lawyer, Elias Mutuma, argued that only 23 votes were cast for impeachment despite a requirement of 24 MCAs, and only 19 MCAs were physically present.
• The County Assembly comprises 35 members, and the motion failed to meet the threshold required under Article 181 of the Constitution and Section 33 of the County Governments Act.
