Deputy President Kithure Kindiki announced that Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) students will receive financial support from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), addressing existing inequity in student financing. This commitment was made during the 2025 KMTC graduation ceremony at Kasarani Stadium on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

KMTC students previously relied on schemes like the Afya Elimu Fund and the KMTC Students’ Financing Scheme, which primarily covered tuition fees sent directly to the institution.
The new HELB support aims to bridge the gap between KMTC students and university students, who receive a significant non-repayable scholarship component (ranging from 30% to 70%) and an upkeep loan for living expenses.
DP Kindiki pledged to convene stakeholders including the Minister for Treasury, Minister of Health, and Minister of Education next week to enact these changes and ensure all students secure jobs in their professions.
