Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has committed to covering the medical expenses and protection for a woman who survived a gang rape in Laare, Meru. This action follows his earlier offer of a Ksh300,000 reward for information leading to the perpetrators' arrests.

• Nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred on December 1, 2025, during a circumcision procession in Laare Town.
• The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched a search, leading to targeted raids and arrests in Irinde, Lubwa, and Kiarama.
• Sonko vowed to assist in the hunt for remaining perpetrators and support the survivor until justice is served, emphasizing that "anyone who harms our daughters, sisters, and mothers will face the full force of the law."
