During the burial of his sister, Beryl Achieng Odinga, ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga Odinga corrected long-standing distortions about his late father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s, political and economic philosophy, insisting he was wrongly cast as a communist.

• Oburu stated Jaramogi was a businessman who encouraged saving and trade, having established institutions like the Luo Thrift and Trading Corporation in 1947 and the Luo Union in 1952.
• He clarified that Jaramogi admired the Chinese communal model because it resembled the African extended family, not due to communist doctrine, emphasizing his belief in capital and growth.
• Oburu also addressed the future of ODM, dismissing claims of a vacuum after Raila Odinga’s death and stating he has taken on the leadership role.
