The Kenyan tea market achieved a significant milestone last week, fetching Sh1.1 billion at the Mombasa Tea Auction from the sale of 4,248,122 kg of tea. This strong performance was driven by quality produce from smallholder factories.
- Several factories, including Mununga, Gacharage, and Imenti, secured top prices ranging between Sh336 and Sh319 per kg.
- Kinoro offered the highest volume among smallholder factories at 175,504 kgs, demonstrating the strong participation of local producers.
- Global Tea led the buyers’ category, purchasing 22,919 packages, while 51 companies actively participated in the auction, with 127,933 packages sold in total.
