Kenya and the United States Health Cooperation Framework is set to significantly overhaul the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) and accelerate emergency drug deployment during health crises.

• KEMSA will take over procurement, warehousing, and distribution of US-funded laboratory commodities valued at nearly KSh2 billion annually by December 31, 2026.
• The agreement mandates the implementation of Global Standards 1 (GS1) technology for digital tracking of US-funded medical commodities, ensuring traceability from entry to the health facility.
• The Government of Kenya must report any loss or diversion of commodities within seven days to enhance accountability.
• The Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) can now rely on United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval or Emergency Use Authorization for rapid deployment of medical countermeasures during outbreaks, aligning with Kenya's 7-1-7 public health metric.
