A political rift between brothers Moses Wetangula, Speaker of the National Assembly, and Tim Wanyonyi, Westlands MP, has intensified in Bungoma politics, following a by-election upset and Wanyonyi's gubernatorial aspirations.

• An independent candidate defeated Ford Kenya's candidate by more than 4,000 votes in the Chwele–Kabuchai ward by-election, a blow to Speaker Wetangula's influence.
• Tim Wanyonyi criticized local leaders for "forcing themselves on locals," widely seen as a jab at Wetangula's dominance in Bungoma County.
• Wanyonyi is shifting his political base from Nairobi to Bungoma, seeking the gubernatorial seat on an ODM ticket, potentially setting up a contest against candidates aligned with his brother.
