The stadium, initially on an eight-acre parcel, is being relocated to a larger site to facilitate its upgrade into a modern facility.

The new stadium will continue to honour Kipchoge Keino’s legacy, while also acknowledging President William Ruto’s commitment to sports and the government’s investment in sporting infrastructure.
The proposal to rename was partly to distinguish it from the existing Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret.
Governor Sang cited precedents like Raila Odinga Stadium and Moi Stadium for renaming facilities.
The stadium upgrade is part of President Ruto’s promise to deliver 25 new or enhanced stadiums nationwide by 2027.
