Internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Kisii County, who were victims of the 2007–2008 post-election violence (PEV), are decrying years of neglect, claiming that they have not received compensation while others from the Mt. Kenya and Rift Valley regions have.

• The IDPs claim victims in other regions received Ksh 400,000, 2.5 hectares of land, and housing assistance.
• Joseph Atambo, chairperson of the Kisii County IDPs Marginalised Self Help Group, states they initially received Ksh 10,000 but were denied further compensation.
• Out of 1,213 registered IDPs, the group now consists of 1,100 individuals demanding compensation from President William Ruto's government.
• The government established a compensation framework and has released funds in phases since 2008, including Ksh 10 billion in March 2015 and Ksh 1 billion in February 2016, totaling Ksh 17.5 billion spent.
