M23 rebels have consolidated control of Uvira in eastern DR Congo, flushing out remaining enemy combatants after taking strategic parts of the city near Burundi. The takeover has led to the collection of several bodies from the streets and widespread power outages.

• Approximately 10 bodies were collected from the streets between Wednesday and Thursday in Uvira.
• The M23 offensive, backed by Rwanda, aimed to deprive the Democratic Republic of Congo of military support from Burundi.
• Around 2,500 Burundian forces remain in the hills overlooking Uvira, despite hundreds already having crossed back into Burundi.
