Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has revealed the new grading and placement criteria for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) 2025. These details aim to clarify the transition for students moving to senior school under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

• The KJSEA grading system uses an 8-point scale, developed from four performance levels: exceeding expectation, meeting expectation, approaching expectation, and below expectation.
• The final assessment for Grade 9 learners is comprised of three components: 20% from the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), 20% from school-based assessments in Grades 7 and 8, and 60% from the summative KJSEA evaluation in Grade 9.
• An "approaching expectation" grade is sufficient for learners to progress to senior school pathways.
• The top performing subjects included Hindu Religious Education (84%), Integrated Science (61%), and Social Studies (58.7%).
• The announcement was made at Mtihani House in Nairobi on Thursday, December 11.
