Calls are mounting for the Kenyan government to officially recognize environmental activist Truphena Muthoni on Jamhuri Day for her new 72-hour tree-hugging world record, a silent protest against deforestation.

• Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei urged the government to award Muthoni the Head of State Commendation.
• Muthoni set a Guinness World Record for hugging a tree for 72 hours, accompanied by dry fasting, from December 8 to December 11, 2025.
• Her challenge, aimed at raising climate awareness, followed her previous Guinness World Record of 48 hours and garnered support from leaders like Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris.
